How much should you charge per lesson?
Start from what you want to take home, not from what others charge. Change any number and the price updates.
Charge at least
$45 per hour
- 45-minute lesson$34
- 30-minute lesson$23
- You need to bill per month$2,540
- Teaching hours per month58
- What you really earn per hour, prep included$26
Your costs are added, the total is grossed up for tax and then spread over the hours you actually teach in a year. Prep time does not change the price; it shows what each hour of work really pays.
How it works
Three steps to a fair price.
- 1
Start from take-home pay
Pick the monthly income you want after tax and costs. Everything else is worked out from it.
- 2
Add costs and tax
Monthly costs are added on top, then the total is grossed up for the tax and fees you pay.
- 3
Spread it over the hours you teach
Weeks off are not billed, so the yearly total is divided only by the hours you actually teach.

Frequently asked questions
Should a 30-minute lesson cost half of an hour?
The calculator shows the straight pro-rated price. Short lessons often need the same prep and admin as long ones, so you may want to round it up.
Does the price cover my holidays?
Yes. Weeks off are not billed, so the hourly price is set high enough to cover them.
How does Teach Space help with pricing?
Teach Space keeps the lesson price with each class, shows which lessons are paid and which are owed, and can export an invoice for a student or their parents.
